This was a pet project for my previous firm led by principal Charles Montgomery while he was the presiding local AIA chapter president. For many years prior, the local AIA chapter was sequestered in a downtown high rise building with little public presence and insufficient space to host its various organizational outreach endeavors. It was Mr. Montgomery’s vision to establish the chapter office on a street level space of St. Charles Ave. with easy and prominent access to the community. The finished space now hosts various events of every size and has since become a hub of the local architecture community.
As lead designer for the project, NOWA worked collaboratively with Mr. Montgomery, the AIA representative, other local architects and in house interior design staff to realize this pro bono project. After design and construction documents were completed, the design team solicited the local A/E/C community for donations of labor, materials and cash to cover any budgetary shortfalls.
